Main duties of the job

To support the Senior Team Leaders/Theatre Manager to manage a team ofpractitioners ensuring the development and maintenance of high standards ofPerioperative care.? To take responsibility for the day-to-day operational and resourcemanagement of the clinical area.? To take the lead for specific areas of professional practice as delegated by theSenior Team Leaders.? Acts as a leader, delegating appropriate tasks and supervising the standard ofcare delivered by more junior qualified staff, unqualified staff and studentnurses/ODP's in the perioperative team.? To take responsibility for operational and financial resource management, asdelegated by Senior Team Leaders / Theatre Manager.

Job responsibilities

1.0 Clinical1.1 Deliver a high standard of perioperative care without direct supervision,based upon a sound evidence base.1.2 To provide skilled clinical assistance to the surgical, anaesthetic andrecovery teams.1.3 Undertakes and document comprehensive, systematic and accurateperioperative care assessment of the physical social and spiritual needsof the patient where appropriate.1.4 Creates and utilizes opportunities to promote health and wellbeing ofpatients in their care.1.5 Leads a perioperative team to manage a group of patients throughout ashift.1.6 Working within the NMC/HCPC Guidelines and Trust Policiesrecognising ones own abilities and limitations.1.7 Maintain a good standard of communication with the multi-disciplinaryteam and respect the confidentiality of patients, relatives and colleagues.1.8 To ensure 24 hour cover, working rotational shifts to include earlies,lates, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.1.9 Influence and monitor the standards of direct patient care delivery inaccordance with best practice and operational protocols and guidelines.1.10 Promote good working relationships within the perioperative teamsproviding appropriate advice and support.1.11 Facilitate the development of standards of care and assist with theimplementation of appropriate monitoring techniques

Person Specification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years post registration within the Perioperative environment
  • Evidence of Continual Professional Development
  • Ability to lead a team


Desirable

  • Evidence of Research Management
  • Experience of Clinical Audit
  • Experience of Resource Management
  • Band 6 experience within the Perioperative environment


Qualification and Professional Training

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse and/or Registered Operating Department Practitioner, (Diploma in Operating Department Practice/NVQ level3/C&G752)


Desirable

  • Post Graduate Qualification
  • Mentoring & Assessing Qualification (396CPD, 308CPD, 209CPD, 324NS, 998ENB
  • Assessing/Verification Award, (D32/33 or A/V award)
  • Teaching Qualification (C&G 730)
  • Managerial Qualification
  • Leadership Development


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Experience within a specific specialty/skill relevant to post


Desirable

  • Experienced Recovery Practitioner
  • Experienced Anesthetic Practitioner
  • Experienced Scrub/Circulating Practitioner (General Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, Trauma & Emergency, Orthopedics, Day Procedure
