Job summary

We are excited to offer this opportunity to join our Maternity Mental Health Service. Our small, specialist service of passionate clinicians supports the delivery of psychologically-informed care within maternity services across Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. We offer psychological assessment, formulation and therapy for those experiencing mental health difficulties directly relating to their maternity journey. This might include, for example, tokophobia (severe fear of childbirth), birth trauma and/or antenatal anxiety associated with previous baby loss.

We are looking for someone to support the service provision particularly in Southampton and New Forest area and more widely across the service. Remote working is possible for a proportion of the time, though candidates should have a willingness to travel to be regularly present at maternity bases and community sites in Southampton and the surrounding areas. Clinical skills in evidence-based psychological therapies for trauma and experience of providing supervision are essential.

You will join a friendly and supportive group of colleagues, who pride themselves on offering high quality, holistic care. You will have regular supervision, access to Trust health and well-being services, and support to pursue training and development opportunities. The successful post-holder will be line managed by the Maternity Mental Health Consultant Clinical Psychologist.

Main duties of the job

*Supporting a psychologically-informed framework of understanding and care within local maternity services.

*Assessing and formulating the mental health needs of people experiencing difficulties directly related to their maternity experience (including tokophobia, birth trauma, antenatal anxiety and perinatal bereavement).

*Providing evidence-based psychological therapy, as outlined by the NICE Guidelines and Quality Standards Pathway for Antenatal and Postnatal Mental Health Care.

*Delivering education and training for staff within maternity services across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

*Offering specialist consultation and psychological supervision for maternity staff (including the Specialist Mental Health Midwives, Birth Reflections Midwives and Bereavement Midwives).

*Participating in service improvement, audit, and research projects.

*Demonstrating observable outcomes and impact of their work.
