An exciting opportunity has opened for a permanent band 6 Ward Sister/charge nurse on Ward 3.

A secondment or fixed term opportunity is also available to cover 9 months maternity leave. Ward 3 is a dynamic workforce, who are keen to help support and develop nurses interested in experiencing this exciting and changeable environment. Ward 3 is a General Medical ward with a specialty of gastroenterology care.Applicants must hold a mentorship qualification (or equivalent course) and have at least 2 years band 5 experience.

Main duties of the job

The role of the band 6 Sister is to support, contribute to and assist the Senior Sister in the leadership and the management of the unit team and to support the Senior Sister in the development, monitoring and implementation of high quality, evidence-based clinical care to ensure continuity of service provision and standards are maintained and improved.

The band 6 Sister will act as a role model for staff on the ward sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current First Level Registration in General/Adult Nursing


Desirable

  • Evidence of higher education, i.e Degree, Diploma


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrates a high standard of clinical practice in appropriate field.
  • Ability to recognise own sphere of competence and escalate appropriately.


Desirable

  • Competent information technology/word processing skills
  • Commitment to achieving service line, Trust and National objectives.


Experience

Essential

  • 3 years experience as a staff nurse
  • Experience of mentoring and educating junior members of staff
  • Experience of using a multi disciplinary approach to patient care.


Desirable

  • Experience in implementing improvements in practice/protocol or procedures.
  • Experience in designing and delivering education to junior colleagues.
