Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Rheumatology nursing team for a senior Band 6 nurse wanting to develop their skills as a clinical nurse specialist to cover maternity leave for 12 months.

We are looking for an individual that is highly motivated, able to work effectively within in a large multidisciplinary team and alsoto use their own initiative within their scope of practice.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for the management of patients with complex conditions and will promote the service and deliver high quality care that is evidence based and reflects current best practice. They will work collaboratively within the Rheumatology team and be visible and accessible to patients, carers and staff.

Main duties of the job

For this role you must demonstrate that you are reliable and flexible, and willing to develop and enhance your clinical skills. We are a tertiary center and care for a group of patients with complex, multi-system health needs. We support patients from diagnosis and enable them to self-manage their long term conditions. We provide assessment and treatment, health education and support to patients to manage their conditions in clinic, via a telephone advice line and virtually using tele-medicine.

Job responsibilities

The successful applicant would need to be able to undertake independent nurse led clinics would require skills such as expert clinical decision making, advanced health assessment and non-medical prescribing. The role would involve seeing new and follow up patients, have extensive knowledge of Rheumatology medications and biologics, deciding the treatment pathway for patients according to NICE/BSR guidelines and also managing the biologics service and homecare prescriptions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc Rheumatology or qualification within the specialty
  • NMP course or willing to work towards
  • Health Assessment or willing to work towards
  • Leadership course or willing to work towards
  • Teaching/Mentorship course


Desirable

  • NHS leadership course
  • Joint injection course
  • Accredited manager course/modules


Experience

Essential

  • Experience at band 6 in Rheumatology
  • Extensive knowledge of Rheumatology Biologic medications
  • Extensive knowledge of Rheumatology conditions
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality patient care


Desirable

  • Team leader/supervisor
