Job summary

The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory operates 5 days a week Monday to Friday, performing over 800 procedures a year. These include ASD/PDA/VSD Closures, ICD implants, diagnostic catheters and combined hybrid MRI/Angio cases. In addition, we provide continuing care to our heart and lung transplant patients, and we are currently expanding and developing surgical hybrid service. In the Catheter Laboratory we have a range of roles including scrub and assisting with cardiac catheterisation, daily coordinating the of list. Many patients go home the same day following a nurse led discharge process.

Main duties of the job

  • To be a clinical expert within the specialty.
  • To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for the children, young people and their families at all times.
  • Ensure that each child or young person is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated in negotiation with the family, and that this is accurately documented
  • Ensure the provision of appropriate supervision and support to members of the ward team.
  • To be the team coordinator and lead the Cath lab team on a daily basis by ensuring the running of the operating lists.
  • To actively assist in the education and practical training of learners, junior staff and multidisciplinary team members at every opportunity, through formal and informal teaching.
  • To maintain confidentiality surrounding the child's admission and treatment at all times
