Job summary

South Manchester CAMHS is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced non medical prescribing practitioner to take on the ADHD clinical leadership role in developing and delivering ADHD assessment and intervention pathways.

The successful candidate will be a registered professional and have a proven ability to provide assessment of ADHD and intervention to young people and parents/carers with ADHD and mental health difficulties. They will have completed non-medical prescriber training.

They will be expected to deliver consultation and advice to the multi-disciplinary team as well as other professionals and agencies involved in the care plan.

South Manchester CAMHS is in Wythenshawe, closely located to the hospital and serves a diverse community. You will be part of an expanding and energetic CAMHS team that is co-located with colleagues from children's social care and education. South Manchester CAMHS delivers services in line with the Thrive framework and sees service user feedback and participation as key components of service delivery and development.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the post:
  • Lead on the development of the ADHD pathway and ADHD practitioners, working closely with senior leadership team.
  • Plan and undertake specialist CAMHS assessments which identify the needs of children and young people with ADHD and their families.
  • Carry out and monitor clinically effective treatment programmes and therapies, including the independent and supplementary prescribing of medications for ADHD as required with consent from young people and families, stopping treatment in accordance with national and local policies and guidelines or individual's clinical condition and understanding the potential for unwanted side effects including adverse drug reactions, interactions and contraindications.
  • practice in a manner that is clinically autonomous from assessment through to diagnosis and long-term management of children and young people with ADHD, including writing prescriptions for controlled drugs and other medications where appropriate.
  • Manage the ADHD waiting list for the service,.
  • Provide consultation and training to other members of staff.
  • Hold a caseload to maintain registration and provide high level assessment and intervention in line with the post's seniority and expected level of experience and skill.

  • registered/accredited with a professional body
  • recognised qualification in registered nursing, registered nurse in mental health/ registered nurse for sick children or equivalent experience
  • recognised qualification in independent and supplementary non medical prescribing
  • Experience of working as a specialist CAMHS practitioner or equivalent for at least 4 years.
  • experience of independent and supplementary prescribing of ADHD medications
  • Proven extensive experience of working effectively with young people with ADHD and other mental health difficulties
  • Extensive experience of assessing and managing risk including safeguarding and risks relating to prescribing medicationhe use of complex methods of CAMHS l assessment, intervention and management in work with children and families
  • Extensive experience of providing evidenced based assessments, formulations and treatment packages to children, young people with ADHD and families.
  • Experience in assessment and therapeutic work with children and families across the age range with a full range of presenting problems and across settings including community, outpatient and clinic settingss and treatment packages to children, young people with ADHD and families.
  • Experience of working autonomously as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of teaching, training and supervision
  • Experience of offering supervision and leadership of a project/team.
  • Experience of consulting with health care and other professionals.
  • Up to date knowledge of mode of action and pharmacology of ADHD medicines.
  • Highly developed skills in communicating with children, parents and colleagues
  • The ability to maintain written and electronic clinical records.


Desirable

  • Qualification in Child and Adolescent Mental Health e.g. Master of Science in CAMHS
  • Post registration training in specific therapeutic models e.g. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Mentorship course ENB998 or equivalent
  • 1 year post qualification experience of Non Medical Prescribing
  • Experience of policy and/or service development
  • Experience of the application of CAMHS in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of using computer based assessment applications, such as QbTest
  • Qualification and/or experience of leading service audit and/or research programmes.
  • Formal training in clinical supervision
