Job summary

The Infection Prevention and Control Nurse Consultant is a vital role within the Chief Nursing Officer Directorate at University Hospital Dorset (UHD) in leading the IPC team and wider agenda across the UHD.

The post holder will be responsible for advancing, developing and implementing systems and processes to ensure compliance with contractual and legislative requirements, guidance and best practice as well as the Trust's own policies and procedures in relation to infection prevention and control.

The main duties of the IPC Nurse Consultant are as follows:
  • To be an expert practitioner in all aspects of infection prevention and control, extending scope of practice and developing an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability in the provision of such care
  • To work in partnership with the other areas in the trust to develop a strategic approach for the provision of IPC services
  • To lead on the development and innovations between the Trust and relevant external agencies, locally, nationally and internationally.
  • To contribute to the Trust's Nursing and professional agenda

Main duties of the job

The post holder will utilise their specialist knowledge on the services within the remit to interpret and communicate complex clinical information and data, using excellent negotiating and influencing skills to ensure that the patient voice is heard, and improvements made based on feedback from both patients and staff across UHD and the wider community we serve.

The successful candidate with be extremely passionate about infection prevention and control and have excellent communication skills to engage with our patients, families, carers, communities, public and clinical teams using a collaborative approach to deliver and sustain improvements in IPC care.

Having held a IPC senior nurse specialist role or a current IPC nurse consultant looking to gain further experience in a large complex organisation, you will demonstrable experience of directing and implementing strategic plans as well as possessing proven senior people management qualities borne out by a previous and established consistent record of achievements at the highest-level key to this role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Master's degree / or evidence of equivalent knowledge and experience to Masters level
  • Evidence of post registration training


Desirable

  • Phd/Doctorate or working towards


Experience

Essential

  • Significant and relevant infection prevention control experience in a lead/strategic position, in a large complex organisation
  • An in-depth understanding IPC practices
  • Experience of managing an IPC service and leading projects involving staff from different care groups and professional disciplines
  • Experience of managing resources and budgets


Desirable

  • Experience of influencing at ICS/System level
  • Member of recognised IPC organisation


Technical

Essential

  • leadership and influencing skills
  • Evidence of working autonomously and as part of a team


Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the Fundamental epidemiology and pubic health
  • Principles of decontamination/ventilation and Water Safety
