Job summary

Frimley Health have an exciting new opportunity for a Nurse to Lead the nurse Led Colposcopy service and progress the development of a team of nurse colposcopists.

We are looking for a motivated and ambitious nurse to join our senior nursing team with the knowledge and experience of the colposcopy service and the national screening requirements set out by NHS England and the NHS Cervical Screening Programme. Strong leadership and excellent communication skills are key to this role as you will be expected to network and work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders to influence the trust and local population by complying with the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the colposcopy service and will be actively involved in colposcopy clinics. The individual will work closely with the Multidisciplinary Team including the Lead Clinician for Colposcopy, Operations Manager, Matron for Gynaecology, Heads of Midwifery and members of the gynaecology nursing and administration teams as well as outside agencies and women who use the colposcopy services at the trust.

The Colposcopy services are run at three hospital sites the main one being Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot which has just opened a new site with up-to-date facilities and equipment, the area covered included East Berkshire, Surrey and North East Hampshire.

There will be a requirement of the post holder to take responsibility for ensuring the Key Performance Indicators for this screening programme are met and are reported form both sites in a timely manner to the NHS Cervical Screening Programme. The individual will be expected to develop the colposcopy nursing workforce, which may entail setting up a training and development programme for nurses at the trust.

The post holder will report directly to the Operations manager, Head of Midwifery and Clinical Lead for Colposcopy. To fit this role, you must have Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration that is current and have exceptional clinical capability, experience of Colposcopy services and you will hold or be working towards a Master's degree in a related subject.

Lead in the assessment of womens information needs and provide relevant verbal and written information to meet those needs, enabling individuals to access, identify, appraise, and interpret information, to determine their own future health To act as a role model for nursing practice to all staff within the Directorate and to demonstrate clear leadership which encourages staff to develop and learn on an on-going basis. Lead and pro-actively co-ordinate nurse led colposcopy service working with the colposcopy lead to develop the service Organise the nursing colposcopy service in accordance with national guidance from the NHSCSP Ensure that nursing care is patient focused and that the patients privacy and dignity are maintained at all times To demonstrate a clear understanding of the roles of non-nursing professionals and to manage individuals in an effective way to ensure optimum service delivery and their personal development. In conjunction with the Director and Heads of Midwifery, the post holder will be expected to participatefully in the planning of the departmental objective in relation to the corporate objectives and takingresponsibility for the delivery of agreed objectives within this plan. To effectively manage the budget and resources within the defined area and ensure the area delivers within the financial budget. To manage, supervise and deploy staff in line with agreed Trust policies and procedures. To ensure that all staff participate in performance appraisal in line with Agenda for Change and Knowledge andSkills Framework. Maintain statistics, acuity tool and contribute to activity reports. Oversees others in planning duty rotas to meet the requirements of the clinical remit and the needs of the women and considers skill mix requirements in relation to acuity and dependency. Lead and develop, implement, and evaluate evidence based clinical practice, supported by the development of clinical guidelines. To represent the gynaecology nursing at Trust wide committees as designated by Director or Heads of Midwifery. As an accredited Colposcopist with the British society of Colposcopy and cervical pathology (BSSCP)work autonomously in a Colposcopy clinic, initiating and conducting complex patient assessments andinvestigations, managing own patient caseload within the Cervical Screening speciality, communicating independently with patients, actively involving them in their consultation, procedures, and treatment As the lead nurse for colposcopy services facilitate additional Colposcopy sessions to cover consultants on planned leave Work with Lead Colposcopist, Colposcopy Co-ordinator and Lead Cytologist to ensure failsafe mechanisms are in place and adhered to, ensuring patient waiting times, appointments, letters, and results are managed according to NHS Cervical Screening national guidelines.

Qualifications

Essential

  • oRegistered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • oMaster's degree or evidence of working towards.
  • first degree in relevant subject
  • teaching/ mentoring qualification
  • 5 years post registration nursing experience
  • accredited nurse colposcopist (BSCCP accreditation)
  • cervical cytology qualification
