Job summary

This is exciting opportunity to join a motivated and forward thinking upper GI team as a Specialist Upper GI Dietitian. The service focuses on patients with complex needs either in relation to their diagnosis or as a result of ongoing treatments or disease progression. You will be responsible for comprehensive assessment and dietetic treatment of your patients. The main referral group will be upper gastrointestinal and Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) patients and you will be integrated into the Upper GI MDT, working closely with the Specialist nurses.

The post holder needs sound knowledge and skill in the treatment of patients with complex dietary needs, including enteral feeding. We are constantly looking at improving our way of working and responding to the changing models in both cancer care and AHP practice.

Qualifications

Essential

• Relevant degree
• Registered with HCPC
• Evidence of Postgraduate Training in cancer care

Desirable

• Member of Professional Body
• Studied at Masters level or equivalent

Training

Essential

• Clinical Educator Training

Desirable

• Attendance at relevant Special Interest Groups/ BDA oncology group

Experience

Essential

• Recent NHS experience demonstrating ability to assess, treat and evaluate care in acute and community setting
• Good Clinical Reasoning skills
• Evidence of CPD, self-directed learning and Reflective Practice
• Awareness of relevant Legislation, NSF'S/ Local and National initiatives
• Critical Appraisal Skills
• Ability to maintain legible and accurate records
• Understanding of Clinical Governance
• Teaching/Presentation skills
• Experience developing others, including student training

Desirable

• Previous experience in Upper GI and/or Oncology
• Experience in contributing to service improvements e.g. Audit, patient information etc
• Experience in dealing with complaints (e.g. diffusing complaint or investigating complaint)

Special Knowledge / Expertise

Essential

• Good overall knowledge and experience of dietetic treatment for people with artificial feeding regimes and nutritional support
• Expertise in assessing and problem solving in complex cases

Desirable

• Previous experience working at Band 6 level
• Previous experience in Upper GI and/or Oncology
