Job summary

Do you have an interest of working with people with complex and severe mental health presentations? We have an opportunity for a qualified staff member to join our therapies pathway with Milton Keynes Community Mental Health Hub.

Milton Keynes Community Mental Health Hub delivers an innovative and successful therapies pathway for people with diagnoses of Trauma, Personality Disorder, and Complex Mood and Anxiety Disorders. The pathway delivers a range of evidence-based interventions as recommended by NICE Guidance, predominately MBT, DBT, EMDR and CBT. Other modalities are used dependent on patient need and best practice.

Main duties of the job

You will be given the opportunity deliver evidence-based therapies, to proactively participate in service development and evaluation as well as clinical project work, to work closely with colleagues of other professions and most importantly enable you to help people make life long and meaningful changes.

You will have assessment, formulation, and therapy skills; and you will have experience, training and knowledge in working with Complex Presentations and have well developed skills in evidence-based therapies, in particular DBT/MBT.

You will join a group of therapists, psychologists and other professionals within the team.

You will be clinical accountable to the clinical lead and receive regular specialist clinical supervision and reflective practice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This role would be based within the Therapies pathway within the Hub. Therapies offer interventions in a stepped care approach for a wide range of needs, broadly summarised as mood problems, trauma, psychosis, and complex emotional needs (clients who may have attracted a diagnosis of personality disorder). We have a very established team working specifically with clients who present with complex emotional needs. This includes the delivery of MBT verbal, MBT art, and DBT.

post holder will work autonomously and with the support of the team from the CEN pathway to contribute to the development, provision and evaluation of either the Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) or the Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) group programmes. The post holder would have the opportunity to train in either MBT or DBT as part of the preceptorship. There will also be the opportunity to work with other clinical presentations including complex trauma and complex mood within the MK Community Mental Health Hub.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Core Mental Health Profession and current live registration with regulatory body.


Desirable

  • Further postgraduate training and/or qualifications in work with clients with complex presentations including complex emotional needs, complex trauma and complex mood


Previous Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of working therapeutically with people with complex emotional needs, complex mood and trauma.
  • Experience of using psychological interventions with people with complex emotional needs, both groups and individuals
  • Experience of working as part of a multi disciplinary team


Desirable

  • Knowledge of Psycho-education and Problem Solving


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of, and ability to assess needs of people with complex emotional needs
  • Demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Good IT Skills
