The Norfolk Centre for Interventional Radiology (NCIR) team are looking for Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners or Paramedics to join our team to develop & progress your career.

We have an exciting opportunity to become part of a unique team in a highly patient-focused role to collaborate with colleagues on shaping & developing patient service to put us at the cutting edge of IR developments as we grow as a team.

NCIR aims to recruit, nurture & develop talent through our in-house specialist training programmes with super nummary status for six weeks. Previous Interventional or scrub experience is not required as you will have a robust program of induction, supporting your continuous professional development.

We operate seven days a week from 7:30am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday, with On-call commitments every day 18:30-07:30am including weekends.

You are required to be within 30 minutes of the NNUH when On-call. Full time & part time hours available

Main duties of the job

NCIR comprises of a 16-bed recovery multidisciplinary service for elective patients, inpatients, and emergencies, with four theatres that aims to provide minimally invasive procedures using advanced radiological image guidance (x-rays, ultrasound, and CT). As part of our team, you will work alongside Nurses, ODP's, Paramedics, Radiographers, Radiologist and Radiology Support Workers, along with theatre teams from Vascular to Obstetrics.

The NCIR is committed to provide every patient with a high standard of safe patient care. This role involves a combination of working within both a recovery setting and a theatre environment.

Recovery- You will be providing individualised patient care peri and post procedures. You will be managing patient admission to the area, undertaking our safety check lists prior to their interventional procedure, giving premedication, assessing fitness for procedure and escalating to Radiologist, when necessary. Post procedural you will be caring for the patient assessing their NEWS2, pain score and reviewing surgical sites before escorting patients to the ward or discharging home.

Theatre- You will be assisting the Radiologist by surgically scrubbing alongside them or supporting the patient throughout the procedure by observing their NEWS2, assessing pain and administering medication such as analgesia or conscious sedation.

Job responsibilities

  • Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC / Health & Care Council Professions Code of Conduct and work within limits of competence.
  • To plan, deliver and evaluate pre-, peri- and post-procedure care to Radiology patients and to liaise with other disciplines and departments over that care.
  • Maintain a high standard of patient care by acting as a professional role model to others.
  • To adhere to the statutory and mandatory regulations of the radiation protection policies.
  • Implement effective assessment and delegation of workload to more junior members of staff.
  • Carry out assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Maintain accurate records of all care given.
  • Update patient administration systems e.g. PAS to ensure real time data collection and confidentiality.
  • To effectively use information technology for the benefit of patient care in accordance with the Trusts Cyber Code of Conduct. Systems will include Soliton.
  • To maintain confidentiality of information (written, verbal, electronic), whilst being aware of the Freedom for Information Act.
  • To develop the necessary skills to be independent with Cannulation and Venepuncture.
  • To develop the necessary skills to be competent in intravenous medication administration e.g. Conscious Sedation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, medical and nursing personnel, all supporting services, appropriate hospital departments and wards.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC Register, ODP or Paramedic on the Health & Care Professions Council register


Desirable

  • Mentorship preparation programme (or required to complete once in post) if applicable to clinical area
  • Post registration qualification relevant to the clinical area
  • Working towards a health related degree


Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience of nursing in an acute hospital environment
