The post holder will be responsible for providing psychiatric input into the care of people admitted to both the male and female inpatient wards in the Hergest Psychiatric Unit. They will work closely with both consultant psychiatrists on the ward and ensure continuity of care between the acute wards and the home treatment team/community.

The post holder will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and management for adults aged 18 upwards with serious and enduring mental illness in the acute care setting.

The post holder will be expected to comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.

The post may at times attract a junior doctor, depending on availability in the training rota.

Undertake responsibilities if approved under the Mental Health Act (1983) as a section 12/2 approved doctor. Routine 136 assessments do not fall into the post holder's responsibilities.

Undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.

Main duties of the job

Clinical management of female inpatients on Aneurin Ward at Hergest Unit and male inpatients on Cynan Ward at Hergest Unit including supporting the Mental Health Act related roles such as preparing MHRT reports/section 12 work.

Attend the daily Acute Care Meeting to discuss matters of patient flow, delayed discharges and potential discharges. The meeting is held every morning and tends to last 15-30 minutes.

Management of complex cases in collaboration with HTT and the community CMHTs.

Clinical leadership within Acute Care setting.

Develop care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence based treatment and effectiveness.

Professional

Essential

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Minimum of four years (full time or equivalent) in postgraduate training in the UK or equivalent EEA training. At least two years training must be in the relevant specialty or recognised equivalent training (this is defined as the successful completion of the Foundation programme, followed by either successful completion of ST1 and ST2 or CT1 and CT2 or as a FTSTA or its recognised equivalent).

  • Postgraduate Qualifications
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Section 12(2) Approved


Experience

Essential

  • General medical skills


Desirable

  • 2 years' experience in Adult psychiatry.
  • Experience in older adult psychiatry for a minimum of 1 year.

Desirable

  • Evidence of ability to contribute to service management
