We have a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Registered Nurse to expand our Medicines Management Nurse Team working within the pharmacy department. We are looking for a nurse with extensive healthcare experience to help support good medicines management practice across the Trust. Ideally, the successful candidate will have management and audit experience.

Safe use of medicines is an integral part of nursing practice and this is your chance to work in a role that bridges the nursing and pharmacy professions. Our friendly and supportive team provides an environment that encourages all staff to develop both the service and themselves. As Medicines Management Nurse you will be supported to develop your management, leadership and audit skills.

This role has no requirement for on-call, bank holiday or weekend working, however, cross-site working will be required.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist advice and support on all aspects of safe medicines management including the ordering, supply, storage and administration of medicines.

Act as a link and expert nursing resource for medicines safety between the pharmacy department and other staff across Somerset Foundation Trust (SFT)

Carry out a range of planned and opportunistic Medicines Management audits in order to provide assurance to the Trust as part of the medicines safety programme,

Work with the Governance Support Team to oversee medication incident reports and identify learning from incidents, including near misses and propose strategies for error reduction.

Planning and OrganisationManage own work efficiently and effectively to ensure Trust targets are met.Oversee medicines management induction and ongoing education for primarily nursing staffResponsibility for Patient/Client careProvide specialist advice to primarily nursing staff in relation to the safe use of medicines including injectables and infusion therapies.

Advise on the practicalities of drug administration policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Registered as first level nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Council (Adult or Child)


Desirable

  • Relevant Postgraduate education to Masters level


Knowledge

Essential

  • Good working knowledge of drug therapy and medicines management systems
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development


Experience

Essential

  • UK Registered Nurse ward-based experience (2 year minimum) with drug administration as a significant component
  • Data collection for audit and assurance
