If you are an experienced senior nurse looking for your next challenge, could the Matron for Respiratory Medicine be the role for you ?

Our Respiratory area is comprised of our Medical Acute Dependency Unit (16 beds) and Ward 9 (38 beds). The post also covers the Respiratory Physiology services and TB and Dermatology specialist nurses at KEVII.

Main duties of the job

The services in these areas are provided by dedicated, motivated multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for promoting a high standard of nursing care and multi-disciplinary working. You will be expected to adopt a team approach to problem-solving and therefore good communication and organisational skills are essential. The areas cover a full range of respiratory presentations, and the post holder will also work closely with the specialist nurse and community teams to promote excellent patient care and patient experience.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided within the relevant setting. They will be easily identifiable to clients and users, provide strong, visible leadership and have the appropriate level of authority to provide support, advice and assistance required by patients, their families and carers. Emphasis on the areas of Patient/Client Safety, Patient Experience, User engagement and Clinical Outcomes will be essential.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse. 1st level with current NMC Registration
  • Educated to degree level, working towards or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of on-going professional development in a recognised nursing field of practice
  • Recognised leadership development training


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience at senior clinical/managerial level
  • Experience of working independently as a clinical leader
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Proven record of managing change


Desirable

  • Proven record of managing significant corporate change whilst maintaining the provision of a high-quality service
  • Involvement in clinical audit and/or research


Knowledge

Essential

  • Understands the concepts of clinical governance and shared governance including evidence-based practice and critical appraisal of research findings
  • Demonstrates knowledge of effective risk management
  • Knowledge of current NHS issues including performance targets and the wider health economy
  • Knowledge and experience of management models, implementing change and/or new clinical practices and current professional issues
  • NMC Code of Conduct


Desirable

  • Experience of leading patient involvement/patient feedback initiatives
  • Proven record of managing significant corporate change whilst maintaining the provision of a high-quality service.

  • Effective communicator to all levels
