Job summary

A rare opportunity has arisen to lead The All Wales Therapeutics and Toxicology Centre (AWTTC) as programme director. We are looking for an individual with a passion and interest in medicines, coupled with experience of strategic working at a national level, who can work collaboratively throughout NHS Wales and wider to develop and deliver the ambition of AWTTC.

AWTTC is a national service, commissioned directly by the Welsh Government and hosted within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board with a specific remit to ensure the NHS in Wales achieve the best possible outcomes from the safe and effective use of medicines.

Professionally accountable to the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer at the Welsh Government and managerially accountable to AWTTC clinical director, this is a key senior role for health and healthcare in Wales, with a focus on supporting clinicians and patients to realise the benefits of Wales more than �1bn annual medicines expenditure.

AWTTC is hosted within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board but works across NHS Wales and with partners in the pharmaceutical industry, life sciences sector, academic institutions, other UK health technology appraisal bodies, and the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency. Working with equivalents in the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and the Scottish Medicines Consortium, the Director plays a leading role in the development of value assessment across the UK.

Main duties of the job

The Director will lead on the development of AWTTC's long term strategy in response to the changing needs of NHS Wales and be responsible for leading AWTTC's workforce to deliver meaningful outcomes in line with the strategy and AWTTC's operational plans

The Director is accountable for AWTTC providing exemplary advice across NHS Wales on all aspects of prescribing and therapeutics including advice on access, uptake, use, outcomes and cost effectiveness/value of all medicines prescribed in Wales (estimated value >�1bn per annum), this includes statutory advice provided to Welsh Ministers through the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
