Job summary
Are you interested in developing specialist skills in neurological rehabilitation? We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic speech and language therapist to join our inpatient neuro-rehab speech and language therapy team and to be a part of the wider interdisciplinary team providing intensive rehabilitation to patients with acquired neurological disorders. You will be involved in assessment and rehabilitation of communication and swallowing difficulties with the support of senior colleagues at the rehabilitation centre. As part of the adult speech and language therapy service you will be encouraged to develop skills in videofluoroscopy and FEES and to participate in a wide variety of continuing professional development activities.
You will also be part of a Saturday working rota on the acute stroke unit with other band 6 therapists in the team, under the lead speech and language therapist for stroke. As such, some experience in acute stroke is desirable however training and support is provided.
Main duties of the job
Assessment and treatment of dysphagia and acquired communication difficulties.
Therapy and rehabilitation plans
Training other staff, families and carers.
Mentoring of students and junior staff.
Acquiring competencies for VF and FEES.
A variety of clinical administrative duties

Job responsibilities
- To be a specialist therapist within the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) team providing a comprehensive, specialist clinical service to all patients referred with communication and/or swallowing difficulties in Sussex Rehabilitation Centre.
- To be an active member of the SLT service and a specialist resource on swallowing and/or communication disorders in relation to the caseload in Sussex Rehabilitation Centre, Princess Royal Hospital including liaison with other SLTs and other professionals external to the service in relation to specialist information, analysis and advice on continuing care.
