Job summary

Are you a HCPC registered ODP or a first level Registered Nurse with the NMC? Would you like the challenge of scrubbing for complex technical cases within a supportive well led team or providing skilled support to our Anaesthetists?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for us to recruit a Band 5 Theatre Practitioner to strengthen our Combined Specialities Team based at City. We practice multiskilling and are looking to recruit a dynamic Practitioner who wishes to develop their practice in either Anaesthesia and/or surgical scrub support.

You will be joining a pro-active, dynamic team of nurses and ODP's, who offer the best standards of perioperative care. Every day is different - challenging but rewarding. We pride ourselves on team work, learning and being forward thinking.

Expectations are to deliver a high quality service, with patient safety a priority. You should be able to demonstrate effective team working and work to the highest standards of evidence based practice. A sense of humour and pride in your job is essential.

NUH is a Major Trauma Centre offering fantastic support to a diverse range of students and learners and therefore the successful applicant should either hold or be willing to work towards a level three mentorship qualification.

About us

We can support you to develop your own practice through exposure to complex techniques quite unique to Combined Specialities anaesthetics/surgery. We offer an in-house anaesthetic course for registered nurses.

The successful applicant will participate in the current Main Theatre rota which includes out of hours work, nights and weekend shifts. There is a commitment to Bank Holiday work and on-calls.

- To deliver high quality holistic care to patients

- To facilitate efficient and effective care and communication between the team

- To actively contribute to developing the professional practice of the Clinical Support Division

Please note that due to ongoing service developments the post holder may be required cross site at our other Theatre Complex based at the QMC Campus.

Person Specification



  • Demonstrate effective written communication skills


  • Demonstrate Computer literacy & use of IT skills - e.g. e-mail, Excel, PowerPoint and Word



  • Current level one NMC registration or HCPC registration


  • Completion of Mentor Preparation
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.



  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Theatre/Recovery role


  • Experience of delivering care in a Healthcare Environment
