Are you looking for a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapy position working with adults?

Do you want to gain knowledge, skills and experience working in a wide range of clinical specialities with excellent support and development opportunities from specialist SLTs?

If so, we welcome you to apply for this rare and exciting opportunity to join the Adult Speech and Language Therapy team in Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBU HB) on a full time, permanent contract.

The post is rotational, giving the successful candidate a unique opportunity to develop their skills and clinical expertise across multiple specialities in the acute, rehabilitation and outpatient settings.

You will expand your clinical and professional working with progressive and acute neurological disorders, general medical caseloads, head and neck cancer and ENT services.

There will be on-site support available from an experienced SLT team who are friendly and forward thinking. We routinely provide regular appraisal and clinical supervision opportunities, active support for research, audit and evidence-based practice and dedicated time and funding for appropriate CPD. The team has excellent administrative support and well-established SLT led videofluoroscopy, FEES and SVR clinics.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will need to be punctual, flexible, enthusiastic, dynamic and proactive in driving their development and learning as they rotate between 3 specialist teams; stroke, neuro-medical, and Head and Neck Cancer/ENT

In each of these rotations, they will be responsible for the assessment and management of communication and swallowing difficulties with support and direction from supervisors

They will need to be able to travel between sites in a timely manner and be involved in the development and delivery of training and education to family, patients and staff

They will work with care and compassion, demonstrating the Health Board's values throughout their work within the SLT team and also wider multi-disciplinary teams and professional forums.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree
  • Registered member of the RCSLT and HCPC


Desirable

  • Relevant postgraduate courses
  • Membership of CEN


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of adult assessments in clinical placement or previous post
  • Experience of planning and implementation of treatment in clinical placement or previous post
  • Experience of autonomous caseload management in clinical placement or previous post


Desirable

  • Adult caseload experience
  • Working within an MDT


Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group
  • Accurate administration and analysis of adult assessments leading to differential diagnosis
  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group
  • Able to take an active role in the multidisciplinary team negotiating case management as appropriate
  • Able to work independently and without direct supervision


Desirable

  • Experience of, and resolution of conflict
  • Experience of audit projects within own clinical area

  • Demonstrates understanding of own scope of practice and person centred care
