Job summary

We require enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced registered nurses to join our new Discharge Lounge working alongside the Medical Day Case Units at both Wansbeck General Hospital and North Tyneside General Hospital. The units are open Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays and the new Discharge Lounge will be open 0900-1800.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a busy Nurse-Led, innovative and forward-thinking service that will provide seamless, safe and high- quality discharges to our patients across our large regional network. Alongside the discharge lounge is the opportunity to work within our well-established Medical Day Case Units that provide programmed activities to patients from a wide range of specialities such as Rheumatology, Haematology, Respiratory and Gastroenterology on a day case basis.

Main duties of the job

The main purpose of the role is to provide safe and prompt discharges for patients who are being discharged home or into further Residential/Nursing Care.

Excellent communication skills are essential as well as an ability to co-ordinate and forward plan. The successful candidates will be working closer with members of the further MDT to ensure all discharges run smoothly.

With regard to the Medical Day Case Units, there will be the need to help provide ongoing care for patients requiring transfusions and specialist infusions as well as other specialised procedures.

The successful candidates must be flexible to accommodate the needs of the service and be able to work independently, autonomously when required, and be confident in communicating with members of the multidisciplinary teams who we work alongside.

You will also be responsible for organizing and co-ordinating our services in the absence of senior staff and to maintain high clinical standards.

About us

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the country. Leading in innovation and quality - opening a state of the art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. Do you want to work in one of the best performing NHS organisations in England? Work in an organisation that supports its staff and focuses on staff experience as much as it does the experience of its patients? You can live and breathe in an area that has the cleanest air, cost effective living, great nightlife, some of the best schools with a wealth of history available on your doorstep. Sound too good to be true? Well it isn't, this is what you get when you work for Northumbria Healthcare, this is the Northumbria Way!
