Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our pharmacy team at a senior level on a part-time basis. We are looking for an experienced pharmacist in leading the Community Services Division.

As a department we are working towards embedding pharmacist prescribers in areas where a patient need exists.

Post holders will be required to undertake weekend, bank holidays and late nights on a rota basis. Your previous experience in the pharmacy profession will be considered.

Main duties of the job

Develop and deliver any/all pathways between Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and partners in primary care.

Participates in the provision of a comprehensive pharmaceutical service to Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and to those organisations with which the Trust has a contract for supply of pharmaceutical services.

Ensures that the service complies at all times with legal and professional requirements along with appropriate national and regional guidelines.

Responsible for the delivery of a high quality, patient focussed service provided by the pharmacy team in the designated specialist area, and supporting colleagues in its wider delivery across the Trust.

Provides support to drug budget holders and financial stakeholders within the designated specialist area in order to ensure cost-effective use of medicines and delivery of Cost Improvement Plans.

Contributes to the strategic development of pharmacy services throughout the Trust.

Provides a high level of pharmaceutical support, advice and information to medical, nursing and other healthcare staff providing clinical care in the designated specialist area.

Supports Pharmacy Service research and development within the designated specialist area and contributes to the publication, presentation and dissemination of research and development.

Leads clinical audit in the designated specialist area as part of the multi-disciplinary audit process, and supports the wider Pharmacy Service audit plan.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The �170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children's Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.

The designated area of responsibility is within the Community Services Division.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oMasters Degree in Pharmacy (or equiv.)
  • oCompletion of a one year pre-registration programme
  • oCurrent UK professional registration as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • oPostgraduate Clinical Pharmacy diploma or equivalent advanced experience.
  • oIndependent Prescriber


Desirable

  • Experience of working in a community division


Experience

Essential

  • oSufficient breadth and depth of post-registration hospital Pharmacist practice, to acquire the competencies needed for the job
  • oExcellent pharmaceutical and pharmacological knowledge
  • oExperience in carrying out audits and projects
  • oExperience of supervising and directing pharmacy staff.
  • oAble to work effectively both alone and in a team


Desirable

  • oRecent clinical Pharmacy experience of medication reviews in acutely ill patients
  • oExperience of development in a service area of pharmacy


Skills

Essential

  • oAble to demonstrate a very high level of specialist knowledge
  • oAble to clearly communicate highly complex clinical information to all grades of healthcare professionals
  • oAble to advise and influence all grades of medical and nursing staff on therapeutic aspects of patient care


Desirable

  • oDemonstrates practice knowledge of the relevance of clinical governance and risk management.
