Job summary

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and engaging leader to fulfil the senior role of Director of Finance, Commercial and Strategy. As a key member of the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) senior leadership team, you'll have strong leadership skills and the ability to work at Board level. You will be responsible for our organisational budget (circa. �100 Million) and provide strategic leadership to our finance function.

As a proactive collaborator, you will develop and maintain key relationships with the BSPS Board members and the Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee, as well as the wider Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team.

This is a key role in providing direction and support to ensure a coordinated approach to financial and commercial performance across our organisation and providing financial expertise in terms of budgeting, costing and business planning and development.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be experienced in leading financial performance and sustainability in a complex network environment, be technically and intellectually strong and able to provide strong professional leadership for the financial staff within BSPS. As a strategic leader, you will develop and lead commercial and financial strategies in support of the overall strategy and direction of BSPS and its partner organisations and provide strategic planning advice to senior BSPS Executive colleagues and the BSPS Board.

You will have responsibility for implementing an annual contracting strategy and \horizon scanning for any potential bidding and service development opportunities for BSPS and undertake research modelling and collation of information to support the Executive Team to reach \bid or \no bid decisions.

As a member of the Pathology Board, you will be able to demonstrate an innovative approach and clear focus on driving continuous improvement across the finance function and beyond, while embedding a supportive, high-performance culture.

Qualifications

Essential

  • CCAB/CIMA qualified
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working at a senior management level in a NHS finance department including budget setting and managing multi-million pound budgets
  • Experience of successfully leading staff to high performance, transforming ineffective behaviours into responsive and proactive processes
  • Experience in a Senior Strategic Development or Planning role in a complex environment sector
  • Proven experience of managing complex contractual negotiations and process demonstrating the impact on desired business objectives
  • Previous experience of developing pricing and costing models that help to deliver the partnerships' commercial and financial strategies


Desirable

  • Previous experience of working at Board level
  • Experience of leadership development
  • Led budget setting in an NHS environment


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge & understanding of the contract negotiations framework and impact on the business planning cycle.
  • Ability to employ effective communication, negotiation and influencing skills to enable an effective change management with stakeholders at all levels (including senior management) who may hold differing and contentious views.
  • Ability to draw together a range of disparate and complex information in order to identify options and make decisions.
  • Ability to build excellent relationships & manage stakeholders across organisational boundaries and functional areas to deliver cultural and operational transformation and promote organisational learning.


Desirable

  • Knowledge of corporate governance and risk management approaches to contracting, commercial development and operational plans.
  • Ability to develop and mine a network of contacts, import and assess suitability of new approaches to design new creative business models and introduce innovation into contractual arrangements and business models.
  • Project management experience.
