Job summary

Sexual Health Nurse, Band 5 preceptorship or Band 6 to those suitably qualified, based in Kendal with requirement to cover other clinics within the Cumbria Integrated Sexual Health Service.

The post holder will be responsible for providing a specialist nursing contribution to the clinical management of patients with a range of sexual health needs whilst working autonomously but in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The post holder will undertake Contraceptive, GUM and Young Persons clinical sessions and work within agreed protocols and patient group directions.

The post holder will be clinically responsible for a whole patient episode of care, including any follow up, and will provide continuing care for a defined caseload.

The management and treatment of patients who present with a range of sexual health needs including contraception and sexually transmissible infections.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:
  • youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure

The Trust is committed to safeguarding adults and children therefore if the post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended) the successful candidate(s) will be subject to a criminal records check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: �18 + Administration cost of �3.85 = �21.85. Deducted at �6.85 from 1st month salary and �5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: �38 + administration cost of �3.90 = �41.90. Deducted at �11.90 from 1st month salary and �10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • First Level Registered Nurse
  • Relevant Qualification in Contraception / GUM or willingness to undertake a recognised qualification within two years of commencing post


Desirable

  • Educated To Degree Level or Equivalent
  • Mentorship Qualification or relevant experience
  • Teaching qualification or relevant experience


Experience

Essential

  • Insertion & Removal Of Contraceptive Implants or a willingness to complete training within 2 years
  • Experience of working with computers


Desirable

  • To fit and remove Intrauterine Devices, if required, as the service develops
  • Experience Working in Sexual Health Services
  • Experience of working with PGDs
