Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior sister/ Charge Nurse or deputy manager to join the Paediatric Outpatients Team based at Southend Hospital .

The successful person will be caring, well-organised and will enjoy working with children and their families. The post involves working in the Paediatric Outpatient Department, which sees children aged 0-16years of age.

If successful you will make a major contribution to the efficient running of the department. Duties will include undertaking both clinical and clerical procedures.

The post involves working flexibly Monday to Friday between the hours of 08.00 - 18.00hrs. The clinic timetable varies from week to week, requiring a flexible working pattern to cover the clinic needs.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a Band 6 Junior sister/ charge nurse or Deputy Nurse manager to join our Paediatric Outpatients team in caring for children and young people 0-16

The work is stimulating, challenging and a face paced environment. The ideal candidate should be a motivated, team focused nurse who enjoys providing excellent patient care and has a passionate approach to their work.

The candidate should;

Be a responsible professional and who will provide clear clinical leadership to nursing staff, medical staff and the multi disciplinary team. Will need to deputise in absence of the paediatric manager for the day to day running of the Department

You will need to be a visible, credible and effective role model for the clinical nursing team. Be an effective and professional leader supporting the POPD Manager in driving quality care provision forward in a rapidly changing environment within the paediatric service.

We are seeking a candidate who will demonstrate specialist expertise and professional knowledge acquired through post registration academic study, a good range of clinical Paediatric experience and positive leadership skills.

The successful candidate should also be able to provide and promote a high standard of care to children/young people within the Paediatric Outpatients Environment.

Your working department:The department is situated in the Carlingford Centre, the purpose built Paediatric Outpatient Department provides Acute and Specialist clinics for children from birth to 16 years of age.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • RN Child / RSCN Qualification
  • experience of working as a Band 5 in Paediatric's
  • Applicant is currently working as a band 6 in a paediatric environment


Desirable

  • Evidence of working within an Paediatric Outpatient setting


Physical Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of working across the phlebotomy services (Adult and/ or Child)
  • Ability to teach and train junior members of staff/ students in various clinical tasks


Desirable

  • Evidence of mentorship/ preceptorship
  • Evidence of Train the trainer development courses


Personal Qualities

Essential

  • Applicant has a passion for working with children in paediatric outpatients
