Main duties of the job

The Pre-operative Assessment Nurse is responsible for arranging and providing a comprehensive, effective and efficient assessment process for patients referred for inpatient, day case or specialist procedures. The nurse is responsible for ensuring patients are at an optimum level of health preoperatively and adequately prepared for surgery and discharge following their operation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with relevant post registration experience
  • Mentorship/ Preceptorship Qualification or equivalent
  • BLS trained
  • Knowledge of current preoperative assessment service and national guidelines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Understanding of Quality improvement


Desirable

  • Surgical or orthopaedic relevant courses
  • Phlebotomy trained or willing to work towards
  • Immediate life support
  • Experience in clinical examination skills, clinical examination course or willing to work towards
  • Advanced clinical skills
  • Leadership qualification or willing to work towards
  • Anaesthetic/ theatre experience
