Job summary

We are recruiting a new Smoking Cessation Nurse/Advisor on a 12 month FTCwho will be pivotal in helping our patients give up smoking and/or the use of other tobacco containing products through Evidence-based interventions. The NHS Long term Plan commits to support every person admitted to hospital who smokes by offering tobacco dependence treatment. This includes expectant mothers throughout antenatal care. This role will be within the hospital inpatient team whilst a separate maternity led service will be supporting pregnant women.

Main duties of the job

1) Provide high quality smoking cessation behavioural support and pharmacological advice in accordance with evidenced based practice to those who want to give up smoking or use of other tobacco products.

2) Ensure patients have equitable access to the service, providing individualised care.

3) Ensure patients requiring tobacco dependence support are seen in a timely manner, and patients are fully informed of follow up care/appointments.4) Maintain good relationships with patients requiring tobacco dependence support, respond promptly to requests and ensure a high degree of confidentially, complying with the Trust's PROUD values.

5) Pro-actively raise awareness of the support that is available to patients through an on-going communications plan

6) Utilise a range of motivational, influencing and negotiating skills to increase motivation for patients wanting to give up smoking and for compliance with the Smoke-free policy.
