Job summary

A fixed term / secondment opportunity has arisen within the Alder Hey Academy to support the Practice Education Facilitator Team. We are looking for a dynamic experienced registered professional, to assist in the delivery of learner and assessor support within the organisation, but also to support with our international nurse recruits.

To fulfil this role, it is essential that:-
    • You have at least 3 years post registration experience.
    • You have held a recognised mentorship/assessor/teaching qualification for a minimum of 12 months
    • Have a demonstrable education background and experience in delivering clinical knowledge and skills.

In addition, all applicants must: -
    • Have demonstrable experience and track record of supporting learners across several clinical settings within the organisation, above and beyond assessor responsibilities.
    • Have demonstrable experience supporting the pastoral needs of learners as well as supporting learners who are requiring additional academic and practical support in the clinical environment.
    • Have robust evidence of post registration personal CPD akin to the role of associate PEF which ensures your suitability for this role.


Main duties of the job

  • Support the Practice Education Team to assess the quality of practice learning environments; ensuring all service areas/ placement providers have an up to date educational audit & action plan in place to contribute to the annual quality monitoring.
  • To offer immediate hands on practical support & guidance to learners & mentors/assessors/supervisors.
  • To work alongside learners to ensure that they are given every opportunity to develop their competence.
  • To support mentors/supervisors/assessors & educators in situations where learners are not able to meet their competencies.
  • To promote effective communication between partner universities.
  • Facilitate the development of sufficient mentors/assessors/supervisors/practice educators across relevant service areas; providing supervision and support structures, building education in practice capability, consistency and efficiency.
  • Support inter-professional learning activity across the Trust and local service providers
  • Support the development & delivery of targeted study days to enhance the training of pre-registration learners within the organisation, in particular with regards to the new national assessment documentation.
  • To support the reporting of internal and external monitoring information as required.
  • To support our international nurses.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for assisting in the provision of high quality multi-professional learning environments within Alder Hey Childrens NHS Foundation Trust, and will be required to work locally with services where inter-professional learning opportunities can be promoted. They will also support the Practice Education Facilitators by contributing to the delivery of the Quality Assurance Framework for Clinical Education for Nurses, Midwives and Therapists within the organisation and offer support to our international nurse recruits during and after initial arrival.

Essential

  • Current Professional Registration
  • Teaching / Mentoring experience and qualification
  • Able to engage appropriately with a range of learners and colleagues
  • Able to work as affectively as part of a team or independently
  • Experience and evidence of teaching, supervising and assessing healthcare students in the practice setting on a regular basis
  • Broad range of post registration experience - 3 years
  • Understanding of quality improvement methodology and outcome measurement
  • Awareness of international nurse recruits requirements


Desirable

  • Practical experience of facilitating change
  • Experience of having worked across professional and organisational boundaries
  • Knowledge and experience of the private, voluntary and independent sector
  • Microsoft office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Awareness/experience of working international nurse recruits
