Job summary

This is a full time post of Consultant Psychiatrist in the Crisis and Home Treatment Team, part of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust (BEH MHT) and based in Chase Farm Hospital Enfield. The vacancy has arisen due to the previous post holder decided to work part time in another Trust after working with the team for 5 years.

Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team provide services to the borough of Enfield. It is an MDT comprised of medical staff, nurses, social workers, psychologists and specialist substance misuse workers responsible for the care of patients requiring secondary mental health services.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will have the opportunity to provide senior medical leadership as the service develops, playing a central role in ensuring that changes are designed and implemented to improve services available to the local community.

The post-holder will provide clinical and professional leadership in the Team and will take part in management activities related to the post and the wider service within which it is embedded.

The Consultant will take the lead on ensuring service users have a comprehensive crisis assessment, risk assessment and management plans and safe prescribing of psychotropic medications.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To participate and lead daily patient management meetings, providing consultation to the wider MDT on patient management.

As the most senior clinician to prioritize your direct patient contact time to those patients with the highest level of need, complexity and diagnostic uncertainty.

The consultant psychiatrist is expected to establish good working relationships with the inpatient and community team Consultants and Team Managers

The post-holder is expected to demonstrate willingness to be flexible in altering the timetable according to service needs and to be actively involved in providing leadership and management to the service. Ensuring fair access to services for all is part of this remit.

To work collaboratively with colleagues in other service lines and with GPs.

To collaborate with GPs, hospital doctors and primary care clinicians re the physical healthcare.

To work with recovery house staff and engage with clinical governance meeting with staff and managers

Person Specification

IT Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Basic computer skills, including ability to use e-mail and Internet


Desirable

  • Experience in data gathering and management


Service Development

Essential

  • Understanding of leadership
  • Negotiation skills
  • Understanding of equal opportunities and appropriate training


Desirable

  • Experience in developing a service component
  • Demonstrable record of clinical leadership


Management & Audit

Essential

  • Participation in Medical Audit or Quality improvement project.


Desirable

  • Management Training
  • Understanding of contracting, finance and activity monitoring


Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Within six months of obtaining a CCT or on the GMC Specialist Register
  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Training and experience in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Section 12 Approved and an Approved Clinician
  • Registered for the Continuing Professional Development Programme in the Royal College of Psychiatrists


Desirable

  • Experience of working in crisis and home treatment team or A and E liaison team.
  • Experience in clinical Teaching

  • Holding a full UK driving license and car user
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
