Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Mental Health and Wellbeing Coach, to work within The Personality Disorder Community Team, providing 1:1 personalised support to people referred to them by team members and local agencies.

The successful candidate will have good communication, negotiation and people management skills and act with compassion and integrity. They will have experience of using coaching approaches, frameworks and models or other helping strategies, for example, motivational interviewing.

The post holder will work with a diverse range of people from different cultural and social backgrounds, with the ability to work confidently and effectively in a varied, and sometimes challenging environment is essential.

This is a vital role within the service pathway and the post holder will provide health and wellbeing coaching for some of the most vulnerable people in the community, who often have long-term conditions. They will work closely with the MDT, pathway leads and their supervisors to manage a caseload, ensuring appropriate support is available to people, families and carers.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work predominantly within the PDCS Level 4 pathway as part of a treatment offer designed to promote stability, set goals, patient activation and risk management which will then open up further treatment/engagement activities for individuals with a diagnosis of emotionally unstable personality disorder.

This is achieved by empowering people with more complex needs to have greater choice and control over the care they receive, enabling choice and embedding shared decision making, so that people are informed and supported as equal partners in decisions about their care and treatment.

There are a wide range of additional weekly tasks associated with these roles, including, specific tasks within the duty team, facilitating treatment and psycho educational groups, group reflection and supervision, training, education and specific individual supervision associated with the role.

These posts will be based at our office in Bridge Street, Peterborough and Chesterton Medical Centre Cambridge, but also having the ability and flexibility to travel to our other bases throughout Cambridgeshire, Huntingdon and Wisbech.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Coaching/counselling qualification/ experience or other relevant qualification/experience involving reflective listening skills relevant training and experience in non-clinical SSM Health Coaching through a PCI accredited organisation
  • A willingness to undertake the necessary training for this role). Be willing to attend training with a nonclinical SSM health coaching skills programme (minimum 4 days) by a Personalised Care Institute (PCI) accredited trainer or organisation. Level 3 or equivalent in health and social care, or willing to work towards
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Significant experience working in a mental health setting.


Desirable

  • Registered professional with relevant professional qualification and current registration (mental health / LD / Adult) appropriate to the job role
  • Recovery training (Peer Support Worker or Coaching Training)
  • Coaching qualification/ currently engaging in training/ willingness to engage in training


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of using coaching approaches/frameworks and models or other helping strategies e.g. Motivational Interviewing
  • Experience of working in a recovery focused manner and delivering recovery education
  • Direct experience of working within a multidisciplinary / multi agency team
  • Previous experience of working in the community and with people that have difficulties with managing their emotions, relationships and distress


Desirable

  • Experience of developing a new project or provision
  • Experience of delivering coaching interventions
  • Liaison with professional organisations at local and regional level
